Cruising the Coast and Countryside of Zeeland, The Netherlands
We started off the month of May with a day trip just across the border in the southwestern corner of the Netherlands. Home to the largest national park in the Netherlands and with over 650 kilometers of coastline, Zeeland is an unforgettable adventure on two wheels.
We've included a downloadable GPX file at the end of this blog with our exact route (220km), so you can experience the magic of Zeeland's motorcycling scene for yourself! Gear up for a day trip packed with fresh sea air, charming towns, and, of course, the iconic Oesterdam and Brouwersdam.
Some Highlights Along The Way
Oesterdam
This scenic dam, also known as the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier, is a marvel of engineering that doubles as a thrilling motorcycle route. With its length of 10,5km it is the longest dam of the Delta Works. You find yourself riding with bodies of water both on your left and right, with the vast expanse of the Oosterschelde stretching out before you.
Lunch Suggestion
For lunch, we made a quick pit stop at ‘T Wapen Van Stellendam. With a wide variety of menu items to choose from, including alcohol-free beers and ice cream, we couldn’t have picked a better spot to soak up some sun and enjoy a meal together.
Brouwersdam
Our day in Zeeland would not have been complete without riding across the Brouwersdam. The dunes and the angled banking are unlike anything we had ever seen. It’s impossible to resist the temptation of riding your bike up and down the banking, and while it is a lot of fun, keep in mind that this is a public space with cyclists and pedestrians.
Lighthouse North Head, Westkapelle
Our Zeeland motorcycle had to include a stop at the iconic Lighthouse North Head. This historic landmark, guarding the coastline since the 18th century, offers panoramic views and a quintessential Dutch photo op. As an interesting note, this lighthouse is the first round cast-iron tower in the Netherlands, and each lighthouse in Zeeland has its own type of light.
